Breaking Barriers and Inspiring Hope
In the glitzy ambiance of Fabino Hotel by Top Rank Hotel on the evening of Saturday, 9th September 2023, the stage was set for the sixth edition of the Africa Fashion for Peace (AFFP) Show.
An event that transcends mere fashion, AFFP is a powerful advocacy platform dedicated to establishing enduring peace in conflict-ridden regions across Africa.
The visionary force behind this impactful initiative is Hopez, a woman whose ministry for hope takes the form of fashion. As she passionately states, “When you want to advocate for something, you use what you know how to do best.”
For Hopez, that something is fashion, and this edition marked a departure from the norm with its theme: “No Limit.”
“No Limit” encapsulates the spirit of boundless possibilities and achievements.
This year’s AFFP Show showcased a remarkable inclusion of people living with disabilities. Models with various abilities graced the runway, performed, and demonstrated that there truly are no limits to what one can achieve.
One particularly inspiring segment featured deaf individuals confidently walking the runway. Hopez remarked on the wonder of how they navigated the rhythm of the show solely through vibrations and visual cues. “There is no limit to what you can achieve,” she reiterated.
Reflecting on the impact AFFP has had on the society over the past six years, Hopez highlighted the multifaceted nature of their advocacy.
Last year, the focus was on Ukraine, showcasing the event’s commitment not just to fashion but to global issues. Hopez emphasized the importance of using one’s talents and platforms to touch lives, advocate for causes, and give back to the community.
The keynote address, delivered by Dr. Wallace Williams, the Honorary Consul-General of Antigua and Barbuda to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, commended Hopez for her passion and vision. Dr. Williams pledged continual support for the cause, citing Hopez as an exemplary pan-African figure using her unique style and commitment to make a difference.
In conclusion, Africa Fashion for Peace 2023 transcended the boundaries of a typical fashion show. It became a celebration of diversity, a platform for advocacy, and a testament to the transformative power of using one’s talents to inspire change. Hopez’s dedication to her ministry of hope through fashion, music, art, and various other means exemplifies the potential each individual possesses to touch lives and contribute to a better world.
